การใช้ Conditional sentence (IF Clause III)
IF-CLAUSE --- TYPE THREE

TYPE THREE เป็นการสมมติในอดีตแสดงเงื่อนไขที่ไม่อาจเป็นไปได้เลย และตรงกันข้ามกับความเป็นจริงในอดีต
ประโยคประกอบด้วย
1.1 If + Past Perfect , S+would/should + have+V3 1.2 (If- clause) (main clause)

If you had gone to party last night , you would have seen your girlfriend.

2.Conditional Sentences จะขึ้นต้นด้วยประโยค If-Clause หรือ Main Clause ก็ได้ เช่น
If I had some money , I would go abroad. I would go abroad if I had some money

IF-CLAUSE --- TYPE III + II

การสมมุติเหตุการณ์อาจเป็นการผสมผสานกันของเหตุการณ์ในอดีตและปัจจุบันก็ได้ ซึ่งเราจะเรียกว่าเป็นแบบผสม (Mixed Type) กล่าวคือการสมมุติเหตุการณ์ที่ตรงกันข้ามกับความจริงในอดีต (ใช้ Type three)และการสมมุติเหตุการณ์ที่ตรงข้ามกับความเป็นจริงในปัจจุบัน (ใช้ Type Two)สังเกตโครงสร้างแบบนี้

If + Past Perfect, Future in Past Simple (if-clause) (main clause) S + had + V3 + O, S + would + V1 + O + now
นั่นคือ ประโยค if-clause เป็นเหตุการณ์สมมติในอดีต และ main clause เป็นเหตุการณ์สมมุติในปัจจุบัน มักจะมีคำบอกเวลาปัจจุบันอยู่ด้วย เช่น now,this week, this month, this year, at the present, at this moment,... ดูตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้
If I had checked the oil in my car carefully yesterday, I wouldn't be in trouble now. (ถ้าฉันตรวจดูน้ำมันในรถอย่างรอบคอบเมื่อวานนี้ฉันคงจะไม่ตกอยู่ในความลำบากขณะนี้) (นั่นคือ ความเป็นจริงในอดีตคือ I didn't check the oil in my car yesterday และความจริงในปัจจุบันคือ I am in trouble now.)
